Dear Diary,
Life has a way of shaping us in unexpected and profound ways. My story is one of survival, love, loss, and rediscovery, marked by a series of life-changing events that have ultimately made me who I am today.
My journey began with a difficult childhood, one shadowed by the trauma of experiencing sexual abuse at a young age. This harrowing experience left deep scars that I carried into my adolescence.
By my late teens, I found myself caught in the cycle of survival, turning to prostitution in a desperate attempt to find stability and control in a world that often felt chaotic.
Amid this turmoil, there was a bright light: my high school sweetheart. We met in 2011, and for a time, his love felt like a safe haven. Our connection grew over the years, and in a bold, unconventional step, I proposed to him.
We married four years later, filled with hope and excitement for the future. Our marriage brought both joys and challenges. We welcomed children, creating a family together, but cracks began to form in our relationship. Over time, I found myself enduring mental and verbal abuse, a painful reality that eroded the foundation of our partnership. Infidelity on his part further shattered the trust we had built, leaving me heartbroken and questioning my worth. After eight years of marriage, I made the difficult decision to divorce in 2023.
The end of my marriage marked the beginning of a new chapter, but it also came with significant losses.
I lost the home I had worked so hard to establish and found myself moving back in with my ex-husband and his family. It was a humbling experience, one that forced me to confront my vulnerabilities and reassess my priorities.
Being a mother during this time of transition added another layer of complexity to my journey.
I was determined to provide a stable and loving environment for my children, even as I navigated the emotional and logistical challenges of single parenthood. Professionally, I had built a career in the medical field, a role that allowed me to help others while also offering a sense of purpose and stability. Yet, deep down, I yearned for something more—a creative outlet that aligned with my passions and aspirations.
The idea of starting an event decorating business began to take root in my mind. I’ve always had an eye for design and a love for creating memorable experiences. This dream became a source of hope and motivation, a vision of a brighter future where I could combine my talents with my entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to my professional aspirations, I ventured into the world of content creation. Sharing my story and connecting with others through platforms like YouTube and Instagram has been both cathartic and empowering.
My content not only allows me to express myself but also helps others who may be navigating similar struggles.
Life after divorce has been a journey of self-discovery and resilience. I’ve learned to embrace my past without letting it define me, to forgive myself for my mistakes, and to recognize my strength in overcoming adversity.
Each setback has been an opportunity for growth, and each challenge has taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and self-worth. As I look to the future, I am committed to creating a life that reflects my values and aspirations. I want to build a thriving event decorating business, continue growing as a content creator, and provide a loving, stable home for my children. Most importantly, I want to live authentically, free from the shadows of my past and the constraints of others’ expectations.
My journey has been far from easy, but it has shaped me into a woman who is resilient, resourceful, and determined. I am proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what lies ahead. While the road may still hold challenges, I am ready to face them with courage and hope, knowing that I am capable of creating the life I deserve. This is my story—a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of reinvention.
To any woman walking a similar path, I want you to know that you are not alone and that your story does not end here. Life’s challenges, no matter how overwhelming, are not the full measure of who you are.

Signed,
That Girl Kenya Kay
